Hello my lovely friends,
I can’t express how pleased I am that you could personally join me here today on this blog. This blog is a personal one, a personal quest for personal growth. Personally, this was the one blog I have been looking forward to all semester- a chance to see my eco-feminist knowledge put to work! It took me a long minute to decide what ecofeminist issue mattered the most to my life. They all seem to carry their own weight to which each deserves adequate attention. And yet, as I reflected on past readings, I was most moved by the activism and courage displayed by the women of Standing Rock. Native American women are harmonious with the land, so in sync and connected that they share the pain of one another’s blow. That is truly inspiring.
For this week, I want to attempt to cultivate the same bond those women shared with the nature around them. I want to use this week to explore the untouched pieces of land that are scattered across the Brookline area. I want to go out at least once everyday and meditate while surrounded by the sight of trees, the sound of birds, and the feel of the wind. I live right next to Jamaica Pond and I’m not too far away from Franklin Park so those two areas will be my focus areas. It doesn’t hurt that there are less people outside nowadays so I have a better chance of self-reflection and bonding with nature. I hope to gain some perspective into why the land means so much to so many women across the world. I hope to gain this perspective just by actively existing in it.
I believe my plan will work. The weather is getting nicer and the flowers are beginning to bloom again. So now is the perfect time, in my opinion, to begin a relationship with the land that gives back to me every single day. In gaining this perspective, it is my hope that I can always teach my loved ones to appreciate the beauties of nature. I want to lead by example. I can’t wait to start!
Everything in love,
Cece X
I thoroughly enjoy your idea for this week’s assignment. Personally I am a big believer in mediation and self-reflection in many forms for personal growth. I try to use mediation during many different states of mind, and emotions; using the time to not only calm and center myself but reflect on why I am feeling how I do what things about my past and current situations add to the feeling. I am curious to see your results and wish you the best on your journey to self peace and reservations. I think it is tough to really tell someone how to meditate, connect to nature, personally grow, but if I can to try and offer things that help me. When exploring through nature attempt to use all of your senses and appreciate all aspects presented to you, take in the sunlight, sky, dirt, trees, plants, animals and where you fit into this circle that exists. Try to find an elevated surface, embrace the challenge of going up, and take solace at your time at the top. When you think about yourself, think about everything you hope to achieve in life, no matter how outlandish, think about how you could get to those feats but don’t worry about achieving them, simply go along and adjust the plan as need be. Continue to ask yourself why, divulge as far into your consciousness as you, contemplating and reasoning why certain things about you are how they are. Do the same for others and why they may see the idea as you from an entirely different perspective. An idea that I often try to fully grasp is the idea of actually seeing something out of another person’s eyes. The idea that two people can look at the same object and discuss for as long as they like, one will never see it exactly like the other, because it is physically impossible to grasp every single event and idea that has shaped another person’s life. I think the final piece of advice for personal growth, is completely brutal honestly, honestly is medicine for many and medicine rarely tastes good. Being objective, and even if you cannot right a wrong, it is better to be truthful to yourself and your own doings to better understand yourself if no other reason at all. Truth is difficult to obtain, and exist in many forms from individual to individual, an honest truth does not have to be the same to everyone, but everyone does hold an honestly within them. These are just some of the things that I try to do in my own personal life, feel free to call it all crap and take none of my advice, I wish you the best.
